7 Things You Didn't Know About Contoy Boats

The engineering and story behind every Contoy vessel

When you see a Contoy Boat cruising through the Caribbean, the first thing that probably catches your eye is its design, its size, or the experience it offers passengers. But behind every vessel lies a story of engineering, manufacturing, and customization that most people never see.

At Servicios Náuticos de México, we don't just build boats; we develop commercial vessels designed to become profitable businesses for tour operators around the world.

Here are a few things you may not know about our boats.

1

They're built in Progreso, Yucatán, Mexico

Every Contoy Boat is born in our shipyard in Progreso, Yucatán, a region with a strong maritime tradition and a strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico.

From here, we design, build, and deliver commercial vessels that go on to operate in some of the most important tourist destinations in the Caribbean.

Our team carries out the entire manufacturing process under strict quality standards, using top-grade materials and processes focused on strength, durability, and excellent performance at sea.

Every vessel reflects the talent and experience of the boatbuilding industry, proving that boats built here are capable of competing on a global scale.

2

They sail to different countries across the Caribbean

Contoy Boats don't stay in one place. Once finished at our shipyard in Progreso, Yucatán, many embark on long delivery voyages to reach their new homes.

They currently operate in a variety of Caribbean destinations, proving the reliability and seaworthiness they were designed for.

Destination Approx. distance from Progreso Typical conditions
Aruba 1,250 nautical miles Passage through the Yucatán Channel and the western/central Caribbean, with easterly trade winds of 15 to 25 knots.
St. Vincent 1,650 nautical miles A crossing of much of the Caribbean with steady trade winds and open-water swells of 1.5 to 3 meters.
Saint Lucia 1,700 nautical miles A voyage through the eastern Caribbean with steady easterly winds and favorable currents.
Jamaica 900 nautical miles Crossing the Yucatán Channel and sailing south of Cuba, with moderate swells.
Bermuda 1,500 nautical miles A North Atlantic route with longer swells and the influence of the Gulf Stream.

Each of these destinations presents its own challenges in terms of wind, swell, and current. That's why Contoy Boats are engineered to perform safely, efficiently, and reliably, both during delivery voyages and throughout years of commercial operation.

The fact that a vessel built in Progreso can travel more than 1,700 nautical miles before even beginning its commercial life speaks to the quality of its construction and the trust our clients place in it.

Some models can carry up to 200 passengers

One of the most surprising things about Contoy Boats is their capacity.

Depending on the model and the configuration requested by the client, some vessels can carry up to 200 passengers, making them ideal platforms for:

Sightseeing tours.
Excursions.
Private parties.
Corporate events.
High-demand commercial operations.

The design prioritizes both passenger comfort and operational efficiency for the owner, making the most of every outing at sea.

4

No two Contoy Boats are exactly alike

Every tour operation has different needs.

That's why all our boats can be customized to fit the client's business model.

Interior layout, social areas, furnishings, finishes, equipment, entertainment systems, and many other elements can all be adapted to create a truly unique vessel.

Our goal isn't to mass-produce boats; it's to build working tools that help our clients grow their businesses.

5

They're engineered specifically for day charter operations

From the very first design drawing, every Contoy Boat is built for the day charter market. That means every detail is designed to improve the experience for both operator and passengers:

Spacious social areas.
Comfortable space for large groups.
Efficient circulation on board.
Easy maintenance.
Excellent stability underway.
Operations optimized to maximize daily profitability.

This isn't simply about adapting a recreational boat. It's about designing a commercial vessel from the ground up, built around the real demands of the tourism industry.

6

More than 100 people take part in building each one

Building a Contoy Boat takes far more than fiberglass and engines.

Behind every project are naval engineers, designers, carpenters, electricians, laminators, welders, painters, installers, mechanics, and specialists across many disciplines.

More than 100 people bring their knowledge and experience together to turn a project into a boat ready to sail.

Every vessel represents thousands of hours of work, coordination, precision, and a commitment to quality.

7

A Contoy Boat isn't just a boat: it's a business on the water

This may be the most important point of all.

When a client buys a Contoy Boat, they're not just buying a vessel. They're investing in a tool designed to generate income for years to come.

Every design decision is made to help the operator deliver a better experience, optimize routes, increase passenger capacity, reduce maintenance time, and keep operations running smoothly.

Our clients aren't just looking for a catamaran builder. They're looking for a partner who understands the tourism business and builds boats that deliver a solid return on investment.

More than building boats, we build opportunities

At Contoy Catamarans, a brand of Servicios Náuticos de México, we believe a vessel should combine engineering, functionality, safety, and profitability.

From our shipyard in Progreso, Yucatán, we continue building commercial catamarans that sail throughout the Caribbean today, helping tourism businesses grow and deliver unforgettable experiences to thousands of passengers every year.

Because a Contoy Boat isn't just built to sail. It's built to drive businesses forward on the water.
